Thea’s academic work centers on sociology of religion and religion reporting.

She has worked as an adjunct professor at Columbia Journalism School, where she co-taught “Covering Religion,” a semester-long exploration of religion reporting. Multimedia classwork can be seen here and here.

Thea was a field researcher on an international sociology of religion project, “Young Adults and Religion in a Global Context” (YARG). She presented her work at several conferences of the Society for the Scientific Study of Religion, and is a co-author of “The Diversity of World Views Among Young Adults” (Springer, 2022).
